Mechanical Fitter and Turner Apprentice
About the role
Kickstart your career in the electricity generation industry and develop a broad range of skills through this hands-on apprenticeship at Stanwell Power Station, located 22km west of Rockhampton in Central Queensland.
As a Mechanical Fitter and Turner Apprentice, you'll complete a Certificate III in Engineering (Mechanical Trade) over a four-year apprenticeship. This is an exciting opportunity to earn while you learn with one of Queensland's largest and most reliable electricity generators.
Working alongside experienced tradespeople and industry experts, you'll develop practical skills maintaining and supporting critical power station plant and equipment that helps power Queensland.
Key activities include:
- Gain hands-on experience whilst studying towards a nationally recognised trade qualification.
- Learn from experienced Mechanical Tradespeople in a large-scale power generation environment.
- Develop technical skills in plant-based fitting, maintenance, overhauls and repairs of mechanical equipment.
- Participate in TAFE training and on-the-job learning throughout the apprenticeship.
- Enjoy a 4-day work week and the opportunity to live and work in the Rockhampton region.
- Contribute to teams that value safety, teamwork and continuous improvement.
Some of the projects and tasks you will be involved in include:
- Conducting investigations and identifying solutions to plant equipment faults.
- Inspecting, maintaining and repairing a variety of mechanical plant and equipment.
- Performing preventative and corrective maintenance activities across the station.
- Assisting with plant outages, equipment overhauls and commissioning activities.
- Participating in safe work planning and risk assessments.
- Maintaining a safe and tidy work environment.
- Using precision measuring tools and engineering drawings to complete maintenance activities.
About you
To be successful, you will:
- Demonstrate a genuine interest in mechanical fitting.
- Be motivated to achieve strong results in both work and study.
- Have a willingness to learn and complete all TAFE requirements associated with the apprenticeship.
- Possess good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Be committed to working safely and following site procedures.
