We offer a range of programs to support people entering the workforce, including students, school leavers and recent graduates.
Work Experience Program
for high school students
Our work experience program gives Year 10 to 12 students the chance to spend up to five days at a Stanwell site or office. You will complete safety training, shadow employees and learn about the energy industry first-hand.
Work experience is unpaid, arranged through schools and subject to availability.
Apprentice and Trainee Program
Our structured program helps people develop trade and technical skills in line with industry standards. Roles include mechanical fitter, electrician, boilermaker, business administration and supply chain.
Applications generally open mid-year for the following year’s intake. You will be supported by experienced mentors and rotate through different teams to build your capability.
Program outcomes:
- Combining practical workplace experience with formal training
- Many apprentices transition into permanent roles
- Strong representation of women and regional candidates

Both sites are offering a range of apprentice and trainee opportunities, with positions commencing in February 2027.
Graduate Program
Stanwell’s Graduate Program is designed to build capability, expand networks and help graduates step confidently into the energy sector.
As a graduate, you’ll contribute from day one, taking part in business-critical projects and gaining hands-on experience across different sites and portfolios. You’ll also receive structured learning and development support, including coaching from experienced professionals in your field.
Graduates are employed on a permanent basis, giving you a strong foundation for future career growth.
Graduate intakes vary from year to year based on business needs. Areas of opportunity include:
- Energy trading
- Environmental management
- Finance and procurement
- Health, safety and environment
- People and culture (human resources)
- Information and communication technology
- Marketing and communication

Engineering Career Acceleration Program
At Stanwell, we’re proud to support people at every stage of their career with the tools, training, and opportunities they need to thrive in the energy sector. Our Engineering Early Careers Acceleration Program is designed for early-career engineers who want more than a desk job.
From day one, you’ll gain hands-on experience on site, working with equipment, contributing to real projects, and learning from the people who keep our operations running. You’ll receive structured learning and development support to accelerate your growth, while working alongside RPEQ-qualified engineers and seasoned professionals passionate about mentoring the next generation.
Engineers in the program are employed on a permanent basis, giving you a strong foundation for long-term career growth at Stanwell.
This is your chance to build a meaningful engineering career, not from the sidelines but right where the work gets done.
University Student Placement Program
We offer both paid and unpaid placements for university students to gain exposure and experience in the energy industry:
- Unpaid placements include Work Experience and Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities. These placements can be up to 30 days in duration.
- Paid placements include internships and site-based placements. Durations for placements is determined by business needs.
Education partnerships:
- Collaborations with QUT, CQU, UQ and TAFE Queensland
- Support for student research and industry projects
- Guest lectures and career events with partner institutions

Throughout our recruitment process for our Graduate and Engineering Career Acceleration programs, you will be guided by our Talent Acquisition Team.
There are a range of touch points to help us, and you understand whether you are the right fit for the role. Your resume should demonstrate not only your academic achievements and work experience but also any other diverse extra-curricular participation.
When you apply for a role, we will provide opportunities to demonstrate your motivation, your technical skills and people skills through a range of activities that may include:
- a brief video interview after your initial submission
- an interview with a panel of our team members
- behavioural assessments as part of a group
- reference checking
