We offer a range of programs to support people entering the workforce, including students, school leavers and recent graduates.
Work Experience Program
for high school students
Our work experience program gives Year 10 to 12 students the chance to spend up to five days at a Stanwell site or office. You will complete safety training, shadow employees and learn about the energy industry first-hand.
Work experience is arranged through schools and subject to availability.


Apprentice and
Trainee Program
Our structured program helps people develop trade and technical skills in line with industry standards. Roles include mechanical fitter, electrician, boilermaker, plant operator, business administration and supply chain.
Applications generally open mid-year for the following year’s intake. You will be supported by experienced mentors and rotate through different teams to build your capability.
Program outcomes:
- 90 percent completion rate across recent intakes
- Many apprentices transition into permanent roles
- Strong representation of women and regional candidates
Applications for apprenticeships and traineeships open May to July. The 2026 intake has now closed.
Graduate Program
Our graduate program is designed to build capability, expand networks and give you confidence as you step into the energy sector. You will be employed on a permanent basis from day one and rotate through different departments and locations.
Disciplines include engineering, energy trading, environmental management, finance, HR, ICT and communications. You will receive coaching, structured development and exposure to senior leaders.
Program outcomes:
- 85 percent retention rate after two years
- Graduates placed in leadership and specialist roles
- Opportunities to contribute to renewables and innovation projects
Graduate program recruitment typically occurs mid-year.

Engineering Early Careers Acceleration Program
This program is designed for emerging engineers with up to five years of experience. You will gain hands-on experience at our sites, work alongside RPEQ-qualified engineers and contribute to real operational challenges.
It is a fast-track development opportunity for those who want to build practical skills and make an impact early in their career.
University Student
Placement Program
We offer several types of placements for university students:
- Work Integrated Learning (WIL): unpaid placements for academic credit, typically up to 30 days
- Paid Student Placements: longer-term roles (6 to 9 months) working on business projects
- Internships: short-term paid placements (up to 435 hours) providing hands-on experience
We also participate in mentoring programs such as QUT’s Career Mentor Scheme, where students are matched with Stanwell professionals for six months of guidance and support.
Education partnerships:
- Collaborations with QUT, CQU, UQ and TAFE Queensland
- Support for student research and industry projects
- Guest lectures and career events with partner institutions
Internship and placement opportunities are advertised throughout the year.
