Through our scholarships we provide financial assistance, industry experience, and pathways into engineering, health and safety and technical roles. These scholarships honour our rich legacy while creating opportunities for students to contribute to Queensland’s energy future.

Cid Burke Workplace Health & Safety Scholarship

The Cid Burke Scholarship awards $10,000 to support students from Queensland’s South Burnett region who are pursuing a career in workplace or occupational health and safety.

Named in honour of a long-serving Tarong Power Station employee, the scholarship helps students cover course and living costs, and includes mentorship and vacation employment opportunities.

Russell Vorpagel Engineering Scholarship

The Russell Vorpagel Engineering Scholarship supports current and aspiring engineering students by combining financial assistance with hands-on industry experience. Scholarship recipients gain valuable exposure at Tarong Power Station and a clear pathway into the power industry, from study through to graduate and plant engineering roles. This initiative reflects Stanwell’s commitment to developing and retaining technical expertise in the South Burnett region

Named in honour of Russell Vorpagel, who dedicated 43 years to Queensland’s energy industry, the scholarship celebrates his legacy of technical excellence, integrity, and mentorship. Russell’s leadership and commitment to developing others left a lasting mark on colleagues and future engineers, making this scholarship a fitting tribute to his remarkable career.

First Nations Scholarship

The scholarship is open to First Nations people who reside in the South Burnett and are studying (or planning to study) full time, are a recent school-leaver, can demonstrate service to community, and have started university studies or are due to start studies this year.

The support is to assist while living and studying away from the region, and the study should relate to the energy sector in some way.

The potential fields of study could include Engineering, Health and Safety, Environment, Human Resources, Finance, Science, Business, Procurement, Communication and Marketing, Legal Studies etc.
