About the role
This is a full‑time opportunity based in the Brisbane CBD.
As a Senior Energy Trader – Financial Markets, you will manage Stanwell’s Generation Hedge Book, Retail Book and Trade Book activities, operating within approved strategies and the Trading Risk Management Policy. You’ll lead analysis, strategy development and execution to optimise portfolio performance while navigating complex market conditions.
Key activities include:
- Developing medium and long‑term contracting strategies informed by market analysis.
- Leading updates to short‑term trading strategies in collaboration with Market Operations.
- Executing approved trading strategies with accuracy and accountability.
- Communicating strategic recommendations to senior leaders and internal stakeholders.
- Identifying and leading improvements across trading capability, tools and risk identification.
- Managing contract administration and maintaining strong relationships with wholesale customers and counterparties.
- Supporting new product development across the full lifecycle from design to settlement.
- Mentoring colleagues to build trading and analytical capability.
About you
- Degree qualifications in Mathematics, Engineering, Finance, Economics or similar desirable but not essential.
- AFMA accreditations in Electricity, Futures and Foreign Exchange.
- Tool development viewed favourably with a preference for R, Python, VBA and SQL.
- Proven experience in electricity, environmental products or commodities trading.
- Strong quantitative and modelling skills to support market analysis and hedging strategy.
- Demonstrated success executing trading strategies across diverse portfolios.
- Strong understanding of derivatives pricing, financial instruments and electricity markets.
- Highly effective communication skills, including presenting complex strategies to stakeholders.
- Experience managing relationships with wholesale customers and external counterparties.
- Ability to work autonomously and make timely decisions in high‑pressure environments.
