About the role
This is a full-time, permanent opportunity based in Queensland, supporting Stanwell’s power generation and renewable energy assets across multiple locations. The role operates on a permanent day‑shift roster of 14 days on, 14 days off. Travel is an inherent requirement of the position, including travel for both operational duties and training. Camp-style accommodation will be provided while on roster, and the role may be based on any of Stanwell’s site locations.
As a Travelling Service Technician – Electrical Protection Systems, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety, reliability, and performance of renewable and heavy electrical assets across Stanwell’s portfolio. Working within Stanwell Asset Maintenance Company (SAMCo), you will deliver high‑quality protection system testing, commissioning, and preventative and breakdown maintenance, while consistently upholding Stanwell’s strong safety culture. This is a hands‑on, field‑based role ideally suited to an experienced protection technician who enjoys travel, technical variety, and working across emerging renewable technologies.
Key activities include:
- Executing protection relay testing, commissioning and functional verification across HV and LV systems
- Performing preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical protection systems, transformers, generators and motors
- Fault finding and diagnosis of complex electrical and protection scheme issues
- Testing and commissioning of protection functions including overcurrent, earth fault, differential, voltage, frequency and generator protection
- Operating advanced test equipment such as Omicron, Megger, DIRANA and partial discharge systems
- Preparing detailed test reports, commissioning records and compliance documentation
- Working safely and in accordance with SAMCo, Stanwell and host site HSE, quality and statutory requirements
- Supporting continuous improvement through recommendations to improve safety, reliability and efficiency
- Collaborating with engineering teams, OEMs, clients and site personnel across multiple locations
- Participating in on‑call and standby rosters as required
About You
You are an experienced electrical protection technician who brings strong technical capability, a safety‑first mindset and the flexibility to work across diverse sites and conditions. You enjoy problem solving, working autonomously and contributing to a high‑performing team delivering essential services to Australia’s energy transition.
You will bring:
- An Electrical Trade Certificate and a current Queensland Electrical Fitter/Mechanic Licence
- Strong experience in HV switchgear operation, protection testing and advanced fault finding
- Demonstrated capability in testing and commissioning electrical protection systems
- Confidence using advanced electrical test and diagnostic equipment
- A collaborative approach and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
- A willingness to travel intrastate and interstate and work on continuous or site‑based rosters
- Commitment to Stanwell and SAMCo’s safety, environmental and quality standards
- Current “C” or “MR” or “HR” Driver’s Licence and white card
