About the role

This is a 12-month fixed term opportunity located in Brisbane CBD.

The Senior Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engineer leads and collaborates on hands-on experimentation, evaluation and scaling of new and emerging AI solutions at Stanwell to unlock tangible business value. Reporting to the Senior Manager AI, you will play a pivotal role within Stanwell's AI Lab, helping to explore, develop and embed innovative AI solutions across the organisation.

Working within the broader AI Lab framework, you collaborate within a cross-functional team in delivering fast-paced AI initiatives, partnering with business and technical stakeholders to transform ideas into practical solutions. You will help identify and realise high-value AI opportunities while contributing to the growth of AI capability, confidence and literacy across Stanwell.

Operating within a critical infrastructure environment, you will develop trusted, secure and ethical AI solutions that support Stanwell in delivering reliable, cost-effective energy while helping to strengthen our long-term competitive advantage.

Key activities include:

• Identify, shape and deliver high-value AI opportunities by proactively partnering with business functional SMEs and analysts to translate manual, sub-optimal or emerging business needs that can be advanced through AI into feasible prototypes.
• AI-Native Building - You operate at the frontier of what is possible using AI in novel ways to decompose problems, orchestrate build-run loops, and implement systemic improvements to keep evaluation and review quality high, and deliver solutions that are sustainable.
• Assess AI Feasibility by evaluating incoming ideas for technical viability, integration requirements, data access needs and supportability of AI use cases.
• AI Lab & Incubation - Drive Prototyping Initiatives and individual, rapid-cycle proof of concepts (PoCs) using generative AI and low-code/no-code tools (where appropriate) to validate value early.
• Scale AI solutions – Transition prototypes into scalable solutions with clear lifecycles leveraging modern AI stacks (LLMs, agent frameworks, cloud platforms, APIs, and orchestration tools as needed).

About you

• Qualified in a relevant discipline such as Information Technology / Software Engineering or equivalent working experience.
• Completed Microsoft certifications related to AI will be highly regarded.
• Strong experience in technology, AI or software development related roles, with a focus on innovation, R&D, business value realisation or emerging technology development.
• Practical experience building, testing, and deploying AI, machine learning and/or generative AI solutions using solutions such as Microsoft Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI service, prompt engineering workflows, or similar enterprise cloud AI environments and tooling.
