About the role

This is a full-time permanent opportunity located in Brisbane CBD.

The Senior Energy Structured Trader plays a key role in supporting Energy Markets commercial functions, focusing on developing and pricing structured energy projects and contracts in gas, electricity and carbon. The Senior Energy Structured Trader also provides ad-hoc support to the Energy Trading desk.

Responsibilities include pricing and commercially reviewing structured products like gas, PPAs, asset valuations, batteries, and other forward contract opportunities. The role aims to enhance/diversify corporate gross margin for the short, medium and long term through structured products, aligning with approved strategies and Trading Risk Management Policy (TRMP).

Key activities include:

  • Analyse fundamental market data and competitor activity (having consideration of other business function inputs) to form views on contract market dynamics and develop medium to longer term contracting strategies and tactics. 
  • After negotiation of trades, manage relationships between both internal service providers and customers over the term of the contract.
  • Identify, contribute and provide the lead for areas of improvement to structured trading capability, risk identification and performance reporting.

About you

  • Experience in a trading or portfolio management environment (ideally in the electricity, environmental products trading industry or equivalent commodities experience).
  • Quantitative background to continually analyse the portfolio and market conditions to develop a robust commodity hedging strategy that is accurately reflected in the business plan. 
  • Ability to develop and successfully execute trading strategies and complex structures across a diversified energy portfolio.
