EARLY CAREERS

We offer a range of programs to support people entering the workforce, including students, school leavers and recent graduates.

Work experience for high school students

Our work experience program gives Year 10 to 12 students the chance to spend up to five days at a Stanwell site or office. You will complete safety training, shadow employees and learn about the energy industry first-hand.

“It gave me a real insight into what a career in energy could look like. Everyone was welcoming and happy to answer questions.”

Apprentice and trainee program

Our structured program helps people develop trade and technical skills in line with industry standards. Roles include mechanical fitter, electrician, boilermaker, plant operator, business administration and supply chain.

Applications generally open mid-year for the following year’s intake. You will be supported by experienced mentors and rotate through different teams to build your capability.

Program outcomes:
  • 90 percent completion rate across recent intakes
  • Many apprentices transition into permanent roles
  • Strong representation of women and regional candidates

“I started as an apprentice and now lead a team. The support and training I received made all the difference.”

Graduate program

Our graduate program is designed to build capability, expand networks and give you confidence as you step into the energy sector. You will be employed on a permanent basis from day one and rotate through different departments and locations.

Disciplines include engineering, energy trading, environmental management, finance, HR, ICT and communications. You will receive coaching, structured development and exposure to senior leaders.

Program outcomes:
  • 85 percent retention rate after two years
  • Graduates placed in leadership and specialist roles
  • Opportunities to contribute to renewables and innovation projects

“I got to work on real projects that support Queensland’s transition to renewables. It was a great way to start my career.”

Engineering early careers acceleration program

This program is designed for emerging engineers with up to five years of experience. You will gain hands-on experience at our sites, work alongside RPEQ-qualified engineers and contribute to real operational challenges.

It is a fast-track development opportunity for those who want to build practical skills and make an impact early in their career.
